I'm slowly working my way through this album with multiple listens. It's difficult to process everything initially. I LOVE Double Helix - I've been wanting that nearly unceasing aggression from the band for years now. Never Seen is great. Prehistory is too wacky for me. I really enjoyed The Future Is Behind Us. It's groovy, almost easy to keep track of, and just builds and builds into a nasty breakdown.

I'll keep listening. Just need everything to gel eventually.

@Titan Mirrors is still their best opener for me, Monochrome is really good though.

@Tundra For me TGM and Parallax II aren't really that similar at all. TGM feels really focused and cohesive whereas Parallax II is painfully self indulgent and disjointed.

This one banged pretty hard, ZII was good...

So far this year Hail The Sun was pretty mediocre, last thing I was expecting was the new Deafheaven LP...

"I can't stand Parallax II, but tbh I feel like this band has a fan base that's more divided than most.

I'd take Coma and the two Automata albums over Parallax II any day of the week.

This is also in my top 3 BTBAM now, just in behind Silent Circus and TGM. "

THANK YOU. I have been saying this about P2 forever. I think it has to do with the vocal production and performance. Tommys voice went way too high there and the screams just done have any impact imo. the music isn't as dynamic as this. C2 is shaping up pretty nicely (albeit very long, and the closer is not on the level of WW)

I often wonder if the people who jerk off P2 are the ones that got into the band around that time. People who got in around TSC/Alaska just have a different vibe. More of a metal/core one vs prog rock.

@BlackTaxi that's literally not an unpopular opinion, I dont know why you're so relieved, tons of people hate P2, not a hot take at all.

I hope they eventually end up giving P2 a remix/remaster too... feel like that one needed it way more than any of their other albums.

I guess because I’m a different person than I was in 07 or whenever the first colors came out, it just didn’t hit me as hard as I felt it should’ve. I loved colors back in the day but I might find it underwhelming if I listened to it in its entirety again just because this kinda music doesn’t appeal much to me anymore. It was good, but I just am disappointed that I didn’t have some sort of crazy spiritual revelation to it. Guess I’m gonna have to reevaluate the first colors lol

double helix, revolution and human is hell are great but the stuff in the middle is just ok and some parts drag a lot

Human is Hell finally clicked for me today and it is a damn good closer.

This is so much better than the 3 suggested by the reviewer. Even with their extensive catalogue of music, this is magic. The fact it goes for 1 hour and 18 minutes and doesn't get boring at any point is a feat in itself. Easily one of the best prog albums to be released in 2021, no matter what comes for the rest of the year.

This doesn’t “feel” long at any point. Which is so impressive for an 80 minute album. I maybe get a little tired after Bad Habits, but then Future -> Turbulent turns things on its head so well, it’s so refreshing
