Either this site has become overly cynical or I've become I dad-rock dude who just shits rainbows and eats up anything that reminds me of simpler times

this year has been a series of me checking a sowing-hyped 4.5+ album only for it to be standard rock fare

If you really shat rainbows you'd be reving the new 4s4ki. She named a song after an annual festival but somehow it's never felt more relevant than in the climate of national vaccination ;]

Quality thread folks

Sleepwalker and Runaway Horses are snoozers imo, liking the rest quite a bit. Off-kilter for the Killers

Sleepwalker grew on me and Runaway Horses grew off. Sleepwalker didn't stand out lyrically to me which is why it was my least favorite initially, but Flowers delivers quite a strong vocal performance. Runaway Horses has a nice Simon & Garfunkel-esque melodic inflection but Phoebe adds very little to the track and the lyrics don't hit as hard as they seem like they should. Those songs are probably the only two that aren't 4+ / 5 for me.

the more I listen to this the more I feel like the Killers just swapped their 80s stadium rock cheese for faux-americana cheese. it's just a different brand of sterile

They meant it but they didn’t smile like they meant it…

Sam's town, when you were young, bling, for reasons unknown, read my mind, uncle jonny - you just can't beat a suite of songs that good

I could honestly skip the music and just listen to the field recordings (though it's mostly great). Hits super close to home and sets my nostalgic imagination centers ablaze.

Same here. I've already gone on at length itt about how it reminds me of where I grew up, and the interviews only add to the sense of authenticity.

The recording about the horse is devastating. After hearing it the entire album is caught up in that moment's emotional gravity.
