"I think I might like this a lot, am I becoming a Sowingcore bitch"

Welcome my dear, we've been expecting you.

I think the first half of NMG is flawless while the second half loses cohesion and kind of just becomes a grab-bag of the remaining tracks they had left for the project assembled haphazardly in a "well, at least it kind of flows" order.
And that only got worse for this project, so shit. At least the band kicks ass.

This is unrelated to anything said itt, just a random thought, but I don't think the approach of writing an entire album of pop/rock bangers as a one-off idea is as flawed as some people think. Like sure, it's not the thematic juggernaut that NMG was but this is a hell of a lot of fun and will hopefully help the band blow up even more, which they deserve. I honestly think this is only a cut below NMG at this point, the music is just so accessible and well-done without sacrificing any personality/emotion/grit. It's a wonderful example of how to "sell out".

"This is better than nmg"
Big statement. I don't agree (yet), but it's close enough that I can respect that take.

Foxing on Twitter:
"Speak with the dead was meant to be a sister song to “five cups” on NMG. “Five cups” is Denial, Anger. “SWTD” is Depression, Acceptance. Now we have to write a Bargaining song to bridge them for the full DABDA."

Makes me happy to know the two best foxing songs are companion pieces

Yeah love the nods to previous albums. Five Cups and Redwoods also have the "reason not to leave" lyrics.

This is something I desperately want to believe because it's so possible. As amazing as their catalog is, I don't think they've tied their greatest strengths together for a full album yet. I know I 5'd NMG but even that has a few missteps. If and when they create their "heavy" album, that'll be the one.

This is no Beck

Off course it’s possible, especially with this band. But NMG was such a perfect modern time classic in my books.

Oh I definitely agree, and NMG is a classic in every sense. I just think that if and when they create their "heavy" album (imagine an album centered around the sound of 137, Lich Prince, If I Believed in Love, et al) that it could become their new career best. I think Foxing has left so much untapped potential in the screams of Conor Murphy as well as in the area of breakdowns/solos.
