Listened to Melting Sun yesterday and, aside from it being a bit more gazey than Wildhund, I didn't really see where the dropoff was. This and Melting Sun are way more alike than they are different. I don't know if it's because this one's imbued with a bit more bounce or is a little more pop-adjacent but Wildhund doesn't represent some big decline in output unless you're directly comparing it to agape. which is more of a you problem than an issue with the music.

This was my second Lantlos after listening to the debut ages ago, can totally see people being turned off by how different it is to their BM material, it maybe should’ve come out under a different name. Admittedly I’m not familiar with their long term evolution. But yeah I don’t find it extremely dissimilar to Melting Sun, it’s obviously more concise (a positive imo) but something like Jade Fields would’ve fit on here just fine. Idk I just find this to be a really solid rock album and wouldn’t mind him continuing this style at all. There are moments/sections that kind of suck but there’s lots to like here. Like someone said last page the drumming is fantastic.

I think part of it is that Melting Sun was both shorter in total length but had longer songs. Each song on Melting Sun is such a thoughtful, cohesive piece that really sticks with you, but the project as a whole doesn't overstay its welcome. I'd actually say it's one of the best metal albums ever from the standpoint of how it works as a complete composition.
Wildhund is the opposite.... I can hardly remember any songs from it, but it's also longer. Just way harder to get through. And I think there was just a bit of a dropoff in the overall quality of riffs and interludes. I don't hate this album tho, Lantlos is still great. I actually liked that they went in more of an emo/math rock-y direction.
