In Loving Memory is the first thing I've heard in ages that's made me immediately think - 'I have to learn that'. And One Day Remains is a great song. Very frenetic, and Myles is great on it.

It's Tremonti's band though, no question. The guitars stick out like a sore thumb. All the most memorable bits, all the sections that jump out and impress you, are guitar lines. Also, Myles kicks Stapp's arse as a singer. You can tell he cares a lot about his voice - it's very well trained. Any know if he's professionally trained? I would have guessed he was.

3/5 for me, although take that with a pinch of salt - I'm missing a few tracks (including Metalingus, which I want just for the name ). I like it, but I don't feel that there's anything to love about it. I could see much better coming from them in the future, mind. The lyrics are the major problem. Melodies, guitars, and vocals are all down, the lyrics just need pushing up a notch.

Anyone else think they sound more like Live than Creed?

Edit: This is now the most popular review in the forum's history. Well done everybody.
Fair enough. 3/5 seems REALLY low to me, but if you a) don't have some of the tracks, b) you don't like the lyrics which are so generic usually it isn't even funny and c) you don't love melodic hooks and stuff, i guess 3/5 works... still seems slightly low but whatever.

And on Metlingus the Drumming is the thing that sticks out like a sore thumb, not the guitar.

In loving memory is indeed AWESOME, and you ogtta love one day remains... out of curiosity, besides the lyrics, what don't you like about the album that takes it down to a 3/5?

I think if they're going to have crazy shredding solos they should make the rest of the song faster as well, just for that section. For an example of a mainstream rock band that accomplished this well, listen to "Shine" by Collective Soul.

DEFINITELY! when learning to play open your eyes, i was immediately struck by the sheer STUPIDITY of the drumming behind the shredding. doesn't make much sense at all! I mean, i still love the solo, but philip's and marshall have to speed it up...

And yes I have heard a lot of collective soul stuff, beofre they sold out and became yet another piece of crap band... they had SO MUCH potential... *mutters about stupid mainstream rock scene bogging down Ed until he had nothing but an ego left, and then proceeded to kill the rest of the band*--but that's another thread :thumb:

i never relized how stupid ppl could make themselves look while trying to explain whether they like the album or not. and why do you talk about creed or alter bridge when there are bands like blink 182 making millions doing what every one of us could do, and probably do better.

Creed was what pulled me away from rap and introduced me to rock. therefore i was introduced to all kinds of rock throughout the 20th century all at the same time without being biased. My favorite of all was 90's rock, which made me fall in love with creed even though they only have one album from the 90's but they maintain the general sound. therefore i can unbiasedly say creed is my favorite band, but it would be unfair to say alterbridge is second since they are generally the same thing. but otherwise second would be alice in chains.

First part was a very confused rant. I really don't know what you were getting at, and I would appreciate it if you recognized that since this thread is about Alter Bridge, we should talk about Alter Bridge. I feel like you have a good point to make in the second paragraph, but surrounding it with your life story kind of screwed me up. Can you strip away the excessive pretentiousness and make your point?

Sorry, but my patience for this kind of thing is waning. I think I've visited too much in the past 24 hours.
I just tend to be harsher with my ratings than most people on here. 3/5 to me means that a fan of the genre will love it, but somebody who doesn't like grunge, stadium rock, or rock in general is unlikely to have their mind changed by this album. Maybe 3.5/5 is more accurate, but I'm trying to stop using decimals . The tracks I'm missing are some of the highest rated ones in your review, so it's possible I might change it to a 4 once I get the whole thing.

I've started using a new rating scale for my reviews - one rating for fans of the genre, and one rating for other people in general.

Inside genre - 4/5, pushing 4.5/5
Outside genre - 3/5

Is a little more descriptive. Which of course makes it a 3.5/5 overall, so maybe I should stop trying to avoid decimals.
This is my problem with this rating system... everyone has their own ideas. That's why, when everyone was jumping on me for giving it a five, i thought it was so ridiculous. a rating to one person means something entirely different than a rating to another... oh well, such is life.

Just thought i would let you guys know that while on tour in the US, Mark Tremonti has had some items stolen. Someone has stolen a tape with recordings of new material for the next album. If anyone sees anything on the internet about someone who owns this or is trying to sell it then please contact the band or wind up records.

And i have ordered 3 Alter Bridge t-shirts, they should be with me within 2-4 weeks.

I saw them tonight, and i could actually here the bass, and it was nice and solid, it was better then alot of bands.

Myles Plaid a bit of Guitar, and they covered a deep purple song at the end.

If you go see them a word of advice, when they end the show, dont leave they come back out. so many people left, and lost their spots, or just didnt know.

I want to go see them SO bad, it isn't even funny... why do I have to live in the middle of nowhere?

Heck, it isn't even that. Just bad luck. If they had gone to Columbus or Cincy, I would probably have been able to see them, they just HAPPENED to ignore those rather large cities and go to CLEVELAND instead... dang them...

It's a 7-minute per-mile pace. Not such a feat unless he hadn't already been practicing. (**** you, Ripper, spoiled-*** cross-country runner!)

Seven minutes per mile isn't bad for me, but the nagain i only tried running for about a month... took me abou ten minutes or so to do a mile. Course, I wasn't TRYING to go fast, I was trying to go far, but still...

And dang, u having an avatar is SOOO disconcerting!

Yeah, it's Alex Lifeson, also known as God on Guitar. Hahaha. You'll get used to it eventually.

While on their gig in Glasgow, Alter Bridge will be supported by local band Logan.

I know the guitarist from Logan and he is over the moon, he himself is a huge fan of Alter Bridge and has been friends with Mark for a while. Mark is also a fan of Logan after Mick (Logan guitarist) and Michael Tremonti (AB tour manager/ Mark's brother) became friends several months ago and Michael had told Mark about Logan.

God, enough of the adverts! Seriously, no more spokeperson junkets, ok? I'm gonna report it soon. You simply are not talking at all about the merits of the album or the band, or offering any helpful conversation about any personal opinions you may have. Therefore, despite the relative literacy of your posts, it can and will be considered spamming and/or advertising by the mods. If we care enough about Alter Bridge's history and everybody the band is associated with, we'll check it out ourselves(you've certainly provided us with enough links). Ok? Let's talk some more about the band instead of constantly bumping the thread with updates. As splashfreak said, this is a discussion thread about the good and bad of Alter Bridge's album, not an official forum for the band itself.
