Sometimes you just gotta get by with what you were given. These guys know how to make the most of what they have, without pretending otherwise. Nothing wrong with that.

Totally with you Demon, for once! I 4.5 this but give them a penalty for following a trend XD

I generally don't get hooked by most new post metal albums these days but idk I dug this one pretty hard on first listen

It certainly conjures up Mastodon or latter day The Ocean vibes for me, I can see this being pretty accessible to anyone who digs either/both of those bands.

Matriach's bridge is so damn pure&beautiful. They're not even trying to get girls.
and how dare pointing out the melodics on this after that whole section to end. So damn beautiful.

this is certainly accessible to Mastodon and Ocean fans, i just find it much less interesting than either of them

hum I have 5s on Mastodon so I accept. I believe I'm enjoying their more rock approach than the Ocean now, but perhaps I'm living the present too much.

I didn’t say it was as good (at least not when looking at those band’s respective peaks). Doesn’t need to be.

This does feel like a collage of every acclaimed metal band of the 00s, Mastodon and Baroness especially. As a result there are some rad riffs but idk there’s this lingering feeling that I’ve heard this before. It feels like it was scientifically engineered to get a 4 on sput

"scientifically engineered to get a 4 on sput"
that's spot-on lmao

> there’s this lingering feeling that I’ve heard this before
Yup, many of these riffs are postmetal classics.

Sometimes when you’ve heard something before, you like it - and then sometimes you want to hear it again.
I don’t think this descends into rip-off territory, just familiar. Comfortably so. Maybe I’m just not as burnt out on this shit as I am with the endless of barrage of death metal copyists (for instance).
