tool doesn't have the best guitar, but only the best rhythm section there is today.
So what if they don't have the best guitar? They don't need to be the best. They need to be Tool.

And yeah, Schism isn't really that tough to play on guitar. Incredibly fun, though. This Message Edited On 02.01.06

The greatness of Tool is not from the difficulty to play the songs, but the creativity it took to write them.

Lateralus, for instance. Genius.

Exactly. And Scruples, I know how upset you must be about the double spacing thingie.

One thing to remember about when judging music, and well anything really is to concentrate on the "idea" of the music i.e. it's themes, composition, direction, etc, rather than what the artist should a nd should not be doing and should becapable of. Scruples is correct, some of the rhythmical asppects of quitar working in with bass and drums can be somewhat difficult to grap on a first listen.

Lateralus is one of my all time favorite albums. I find it to be spiritually enriching. I was fortunate enough to have seen them in 02'. One of the best concerts I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot of great bands!) Reflection is my favorite tune! Looking forward to their new album. This Message Edited On 02.03.06

Adam doesn't play too many technically difficult guitar parts, but he's incredibly creative. His writing, tone, and use of technology are what make him great. Tool is great because they're creative are are unbelievably cohesive. I bet if they did acid together, they'd all have the same exact trip. This Message Edited On 02.02.06

Personally, and i dont think im over-rating Adam Jones at all, i think his one of the best guitarists of all time! he just gives that unique flavour, he is the most creative guitarist ive ever heard. I looked above and someone has said 'Tool dont have the best guitar'. Wrong. Tool would be nothing without Adam, or any of them for that matter. He is superb no matter what anyone says.

Second'd.

This was the first Tool album I bought and after listening to the rest, I don't think I would have pursued this band if I would have started out with any other album.

I still need to get this album, I plan to soon anyway. From what I've heard it sounds good.

I bought Aenima before this one... And i'm glad i did that.. I think this album is slightly better than Aenima.. It has a more progressive feel to it...

I came across Lateralus in a collection of my sister's CD's that I don't think have left the trunk of her car in a couple years now. I heard so much praise of Lateralus, but only heard the singles (Schism, Parabol/a, Lateralus). I'm on about listen 3 of the album and I think I need to hear a few more times before I make a judgment on it.
