'I kinda like it. Better than it being a jock riding party for 10 pages and then never getting bumped again.'
I see that a lot with older threads for obscure (or just generally overlooked here) releases, sometimes I peruse the pages and come away with absolutely nothing useful from the experience.

Sometimes people just enjoy the music and that's all there is to it.

It's their right to comment however they wish, it's also my right to communicate a preference for slightly more nuanced conversation. Having a mixture of the two is absolutely fine (not everything needs to be dissected to death), but I'd probably grow tired of this place if that's all Sputnik was used for.

Fair enough. Very much depends on the album for me. Sometimes, obscure stuff only really gets found out by fans and no one else bothers to check, so there's really not much that can be done there.

"I Don't Care Where I Go When I Die"
That Gaza album destroys this. lmao But yeah, something about the production isn't my favorite either. Everything is far too clean on top of me not loving the melodic content. The drums sound like overly tight samples instead of real drums, but I could just be making that up.

I understand not appreciating the clean melodies, but that's what sells it for me. I love how polished and beautiful they are. Drumming sounds very alive to me so I don't hear that one.

Not saying the actual playing is bad. Just that the actual drum sound is kind of sterile to me. And from what I see in different threads, you guys listen to lots of recordings that sound overly clean to me. So that could account for the difference in taste lol.

Clean or raw, doesn't matter to me so long as it's pulled off well. I'm not particularly wed to one style or the other. I don't think this sounds sterile at all really, sounds very lively and still poses some grit.

Grit is like the last word I'd use, but as much as I'd like to claim impartialness, I'm probably slightly wed to raw. I think the kind of cheesy melodic content and the super clean recording are the main thing in the way of me enjoying it more. I feel like I'm missing out on something haha.

I don't really think it's cheesy in this context. The backing guitars and rhythm section aren't as clean as the melodies are, and you also have to reckon with the various harsh vocals, so I think things are not quite as cleaned up as the melodies are.

The vocals aren't so harsh at all tbh. I mean yeah, they're screams, but in the grand scheme of screaming they come off as a little weak. Like I said earlier, they give me The Devil Wears Prada vibes. And the guitars are distorted but they're just playing a lot of this major key, happy, fantasy metal sounding stuff that doesn't click with me. The album is pretty soft, not that that's a bad thing.
