This eats A Dawn to Fear for breakfast and leaves it steaming in a Jurassic period grassy plain.

ADTF is great but CoL is way predictable compared to The Ocean. There's some comfort in that (they don't have any Helio-esque missteps) but I prefer the bigger dynamic range.

'This eats A Dawn to Fear for breakfast and leaves it steaming in a Jurassic period grassy plain.'

This. The only song I'm arsed about on ADTF is Lights on The Hill, which is amazing, but the rest is meh.

Dawn is a weird comparison, but this is immediately gratifying and has wider appeal I imagine (due to the ground it covers). Dawn requires patience.

Sometimes you don’t need a huge sonic palette to achieve greatness though, consistency and atmosphere matter. One thing done brilliantly will always be better than ten done adequately. That’s not a reflection on this album, just a general point.

I've changed my mind about CoL this year a lot. It was an OK band for me and now are top 10, maybe top 5. Dawn is great as their discog is but sevenhill is right, they are less surprising than The Ocean by far.

I think A Dawn to Fear is the dullest CoL have been since maybe their debut so.... But I also don't rate CoL that high in my personal favourites

Anyway, I'm really pissed the first single was the best tune of the disc. This one really lacks a Devonian kind of track and while it flows nicely I feel like I heard its highs already two months ago
