The worst part of Taylor's voice is how American she sounds (esp when she tries getting sassy). All good otherwise

the end of mirrorball is my favorite Swift moment since 1989

I do wish the song faded out after "to keep you looking at me" rather than circling back for another repetition of the chorus though. It's such a powerful line and would have made for a decisive conclusion. Didn't really need an extra "I'm a mirrorball" refrain in there. That's my only complaint with the entire song.

I want to like “Betty” more than I do but the high school imagery is kind of annoying.

In a way I think the weirdest thing about this (and others here and elsewhere have pointed this out) is that a lot of these songs could easily be reimagined as full-on radio pop songs despite the aggressively non-commercial musical stylings.

on the last album she described the state of american politics through an extended high school metaphor. it's her thing
"aggressively non-commercial" it's the top album on spotify

Fair point Ghost it’s more knowing that Taylor herself is 30 (even if the song is a character piece) and it’s a reminder that on some level she’ll always be marketing herself to a teen audience on some level at least.

Like I can appreciate teen/high school stories/imagery when framed in a nostalgic way but the way “Betty” is written it feels so much more specifically like it’s aimed at being relatable to people who are in that world right now rather than being nostalgic.
