The album is fucking HUGE, saw them for Shrines live and it was really damn insane. Hopefully post covid they can come back to NA.

I felt bad for them, caught them in Toronto and it seemed like there were like 30 people there. Rough to fly all the way from NZ and get that kind of draw in such a large city

Yo I was gonna pay $15 for the CD but it's fucking $11 just for shipping. GTFO

"whenever I see an absurdly low rating for an obscure, challenging sounding band with a real 'acquired taste' type of quality to them, I get immediately suspicious."
Oof, that's a fancy way of saying "my taste is superior"... Rating is a highly subjective thing, being mad about low ratings is the most useless thing ever, though. Not a greatest thing to see low ratings on our beloved ones, but everyone has the right to dislike + intentional 1.0s are just rage-baits...

ooooh and I take the bait sometimes!!!! Right Pika?

@Garas I beg to differ. It's far from claiming one's taste is superior or objective. I was merely contending that inaccesible records seem to be plagued by this knee-jerk aversion rather often, especially the rage-bating 1's. Being suspicious of something also shouldn't be conflated with being upset, by the way. And I also never claimed people should be deprived of their right to dislike something, yet this doesn't necessarily imply giving something the lowest possible rating is warranted.
|
| |
ill show you some rage bating memento
|
| |
rage-bating 1's are directed at trends, not albums. If a difficult album is obscure and someone hears it without digging, chances are they'll just pass it by and leave it unrated. If it's riding on a level of hype that that person doesn't chime with, they're far more likely to drop a contrarian rate as a result.

also true yea but

@Johnny That might be true, yet they're still rating an album, or a set of albums which are part of a certain aesthetic trend. Besides, the hype for obscure records, within obscure genres, is usually, well, obscure. You'd have to be actively searching for underground musical with critical acclaim, listening to it, coming to the conclusion you reject the critical acclaim, because the record did not emotionally or sonically appeal to you and leave an exceedingly low rating. Seems kind of lame.
@Parksungjoon I'm scared now.
