Revival is worst yes

MMLP2 has some top tracks on it, Bad Guy and Rap God are both sides of him playing to his strengths but there’s a lot of guff on it too. Kamikaze was short and raw and angry and therefore probably his best since the glory days.
This was close to Revival bad imo, I couldn’t bring myself to listen more than a few times and I probably spun kamikaze 30 or so

Yeah I remember really liking Kamikaze when it came out. Other than that one I've never heard anything past Relapse but judging by those averages it doesn't look like I'm missing out.

kamikaze already feels like a product of its time tbh, still good and has good flows though

Kamikaze feels like a mixtape, in fact everything post Relapse besides MMLP" feels like a mixtape, MMLP" feels like a whole album, instead of a musical rant - if you take out "stronger than i was" (which i actually like, whatever fuck you) MMLP" is the perfect mix of new and classic em

also am I the only one who doesn't care about wordplay or double entendre's etc in rap? feel like people care too much about that shit, breaking the bars down etc, for me it just either sounds good or it doesn't, has good flow or doesn't, etc

I guess to me it’s about what I want to hear Eminem rap about in 2020. I can listen to him rip into people and posture about being the best because when it comes to flow and record sales and a couple of undeniable classic albums he’s done it.
What I don’t enjoy is him whining about his mum or step dad when he’s in his 40s. It seems forced and like it’s there to tick a box on stuff I’ve rapped about that went down well in the 90s.
Since becoming a mega star and a multimillionaire he was never going to be able to recapture the fire on his first 3 albums but at least on kamikaze his anger felt genuine and it had a point.

"We are all united in the knowledge that Revival is the worst Em album."
100. Music is subjective and all, but you gotta be stanlusional to defend that one

Recovery is really great barring the horrid mixing. It really prevents it from being viewed higher I think. A lot of the lyrics are really sincere but there were plenty of the typical eminemisms lol
MMLP2 was the last 'great' album of his with clear and varied inspiration, flows, subject matter, and best choice (kinda). Has some duds and has definitely worn off me over time but I have a lot of nostalgia for it
Revival was the first album of his I didn’t like. My favorite of his is Encore and is the only one I have 5’d so to me that’s the album that was “my encore” in regards to his career
Kamikaze hasn’t aged well. Like at all. I adored it when it first came out but it has just gotten lower and lower of a positive opinion from me over the past couple years. I think Stepping Stones and Good Guy are some of his best songs - maybe my 2 favorite songs of his post mmlp2
MTBMB has worn off me as well. I never 'loved' it but when I first thought it was super great but the cracks I first stepped around have just shown themselves to be truly massive and I can’t avoid them anymore. Still though as boring as parts of the album are and cringey some parts are, I think it’s one of the most impressive rap albums as far as rhyme schemes and wordplay goes... even if a lot of the jokes kinda suck lol
Side B will probably have the same effect of the 2 preceding it but until then I give it a 3.5

You don’t even listen to rap lol

I mostly agree tbh. But thats because I hardly listen to lyrics in general across all genres. Always all about the flow/melody/whatever

Thanks for the detailed post Drifter, I will be giving them all a shot.
@Colton - I'm assuming he gave a 5 to Doggystyle, in that case he's defo correct.

Doggystyle is great but I’ve heard it too much over the years. Snoop Dogg is my second favorite rapper and for a long time was my number one. I love a lot of his albums and I prefer some of his other ones to Doggystyle because I find that one to be a bit too pitch perfect whereas other ones are more loose and are great for jumping in and out
