Yeah that's why that third album never came out because she wrote like half of the shit and the band imploded. Dunno why Proscriptor couldn't just write more shit but he sounds pretty dumb anyway.

Also separate the art from the artist or pirate everything. Moral posturing on this is pretty weird because I'm pretty sure every person is scummy on some level. Like sure, if they're outward fucks like Arghoslent, by all means.

i'm getting a hell of a lot closer to that second option, not even for morality reasons just so sick of spotify ads n don't have the money to go anywhere else. so even if i was to relent... they don't have to have my money

Futures you're looping a bit too. If you find the discourse a nuissance then there's always the option to not engage.

I mean it all comes down to the ability to separate art from artist, and that absolutely varies in comfort levels from person to person, and that’s fine. The older I get the more I have a hard time justifying the fact that society is cool with celebrating shit like Rolling Stones or led zepp or whatever when those groups are stacked with pedos and racists, but some bands of dudes who ultimately mind their own business (at least to my knowledge) and have problematic views are taboo to say you like.

It also comes down to authenticity to me I think. It’s easier for me personally as a firmly left individual to listen to a band like drudkh who openly is like “hey we’re going to reference some sketchy shit from history because it’s relevant to us” than listen to a band like liturgy who’s de facto leader is a marginalized trans person who speaks out about injustices and shit in today’s American political climate while actively behind the scenes profits off of the marginalization of poorer people. It comes across as disingenuous to me. But honestly I don’t like this band solely because I don’t like the way their music sounds, the other stuff is just icing on the cake

Arghoslent always gets brought up in these discussions too, and that’s a great example of a band filled with shitheads who’s shithead beliefs are so loud and proud that I can’t separate them from their riffs. So there is a threshold that I immediately write you off there too, but it differs from person to person obviously.

Tl;dr hey listen to what you want and enjoy it! Just don’t expect other people to adhere to the same guidelines that you abide by for the more nuanced stuff!

yeah, the erasure of any “misgivings” made by yesteryear’s “greats” is very real.

In general I adhere to the same principles as tect does (i.e. to know as little as possible). I’ll listen to most things regardless if I like the music. I just don’t knowingly support any artists who are unsavoury.

a lot of good points, i also don't feel really comfortable with Red Hot Chili Peppers having almost no repercussions for stuff Kiedis has openly admitted

listen to what you want yeah, i just am so over feeling shamed for not listening to/pressured to listen to an "essential" artist due to stuff i cannot get past

I’m pretty pro the individual members of RHCP other than kiedis, who we should throw into an active volcano

Funny thing is, aside from Anthony Keidis, the members of RHCP are all very talented at their respective instruments. Shame those talents were wasted on such long-running, continuously mediocre music.
