It’s not cope at all lol there’s literally a trophy for killing 75 melee and 75 with guns, and you can still keep killing several enemies after that point. And the controls are fine to you because as you said, you play the regularly. Tank controls are objectively ass and there’s a reason we moved beyond them. Again, prob my favourite game, but tank controls are not amazing and all melee attacks are super committal in the original. James is stiff as a board

Granted trophies are tied to the hd collection, that collection is just a port at the end of the day

Also anyone who says the original RE4 is better than the remake is saying so out of pure nostalgia. I played both back to back and while I loved the original (especially at time of release), it doesn’t hold a candle to the remake. Even more so than the tank controls of SH2, Leon controls miserably in the original. Not being able to aim while moving feels indescribably awful. I can see some people like a few of the original bosses more tho, or being upset that they cut out that one boss in that huge raised maze area. Also those enemies with the weak spots who breathe weirdly, they were creepier in the original. Those are about the only points I can think of where the original was better and they’re all pretty minor. In fact the only boss I’d say that’s radically different was Salazar, presentation wise, but the original was comically over the top with him

Sh2 og actually has digital controls "2d" in the options. Tank controls is "3d". The only reason tank controls were a thing in early horror was to frame the game in a certain way that coincided with tech limitations, but you can control the camera in sh2.
There's certainly way more enemies in SH2 Remake and they're harder to shake off because you can't just enter the next room and deload them away.
Re4 original is definitely still amazing, the HD versions are not. Remember 9/10 the games are usually the best on the native console they were made for because they had the system architecture in mind. The ps2 version was graphically a downgrade back in the day and we got seperate ways as an incentive/apology.

The snappy controls of the original just feel so much more satisfying than the clunky ass remake. Like sure, the awkward tank movement controls didn't age well and it is a detriment that you can't aim/shoot while moving. But the actual shooting mechanics and the way the guns felt was far superior. You can't tell me the broken butterfly is more fun to use in the remake, because its not. Don't get me wrong, the re4 remake was good and they did improve on some things but the charm the original had was unbeatable. The cheese, the voice acting, the bosses, the set pieces, the atmosphere, everything just worked together so perfectly you never wanted the game to end. I've seriously played the original probably 20 times by now and only had the urge to replay the remake once.
The ogs just have a charm that these new games don't, in my humble opinion. (This goes for Dead Space and SH2 as well)

"The snappy controls of the original just feel so much more satisfying than the clunky ass remake" [2]
Those kicks don't feel half as good after scoring a heads headshot because Leon feels like such a slug in the remake. Idk why people still consider moving and shooting better and not detriment when it's the worst thing you can do in Remake.
100% should've been in re5 though fwiw, although it'd probably be OP with the dot sights.

In what world are the controls of the remake clunky? They’re super responsive and aiming actually feels good. I have some amazing action clips of me chaining combos with multiple weapons and traversal/parries. The first is so much more restrictive. There’s no dodge, no parry, weapons aren’t as accurate, pretty hard to do flick shots etc. Did you play the original recently? Because I just played it like 8 months ago and it’s a lot more shallow than the remake. These criticisms remind me of people saying RE6 has bad combat mechanics, which always sounded more like a failure to grasp the nuances of it and just write it off as bad.

As for the enemy density in the remake, I’m sure not like halfway in and yeah, it is kind of a lot, but the original had so many too. Maybe it’s because I play the original on the hardest difficulty setting? Can’t remember what the standard difficulty even feels like anymore

On hard difficulty there is a lot of enemies, yeah, but it’s not so much about body count. The whole tone of the remake is based on action. I get so many Homecoming vibes from it, and it’s not a good thing. In the original you could easily skirt past them if you didn’t want to fight them, they’re not the central focus of the game — atmosphere and what you can’t see are the main goal. The remake has made a concerted effort to shift focus onto action, and actively forces you to fight every enemy. lt lends a lot of ideas from the REmake games. You’re barely given any time to soak in the vibe of the game, because every other room you’re having a mannequin cheap shot your ass. The game isn’t even scary, it’s reliant on jump scares and overwhelming you, which is a trick you would expect from RE. As I say, the production values are clearly there, but in terms of what made SH a distinction among its peers, it fails in every single way.

Agree to disagree Gyro. Although I will say the ability to parry was the number one thing the remake got right. Plus you can still suplex the Ganados so all is right with it I guess lol. Me personally I just prefer the old school gameplay but that's me.

I can't wait to play the remake, but only after a friend's done with it and borrows me the PS5. I enjoy the discussion here, I must say. But Gonzo's comments made me tamper my expectations a bit given that he says it's loaded with enemies, and that's not the first time I heard that about the remake. I don't really mind Homecoming, I even enjoyed it, but I don't want the remake to be as action heavy as that. You could avoid most of the enemies in the OG, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

I think RE4 remake does do some things better than the original. I like how they expanded upon krauser's story a bit. it's like Jay says though; all of these remakes lack a certain essence and soul to them. on a technical level they're obviously amazing, but the magic isn't there.

it's no joke. If it was on the hardest difficulty, i could give some leniency, but i'm only playing it on standard. lol

Idk man I think you guys have the weird opinions and pre sure in the minority, outside of sputnikmusic that is. Also I said ER is a bad game? Where? I have 500 hours in that game lol. And as far as these remakes go, I think all of them have been improvements upon the originals barring RE3 which was a huge letdown - and SH2 but only because of pure nostalgia for the original.
Gonzo: are you rushing the game? I never got cheap shot by the mannequins. They have moments where they surprised me but the game is incredibly forgiving with dodge windows, which allowed those to be tense reactionary moments that I didn’t find cheap in their scares. Maybe it’s because I’d play the original killing every enemy in the past and I’m doing the same here on first playthrough. Maybe if I were speed running the game I’d say the enemy density is an issue, but I’m pretty sure you can still run past multiple enemies if you really want to, and in fact I’ve seen this in a speed run of the apartments. I’m also confused about something you said about the other world in an earlier post, not liking the rusted look and saying it’s akin to Homecoming: the rusted world aesthetic has been in the games since 3… so that was confusing to me.

I hope SH2 is a huge success for Konami/Bloober. Really want Silent Hill to experience a renaissance similar to RE

I would like to point out that one's positive response to any remake can just as easily be chalked up to 'nostalgia' as one's preference for the original
