It's way less dancey.

This is not "dancey" at all.

Plenty of similarities, but the vibe is scattered. Doesn't settle as deep into a groove as Amnio.

Can't agree with that. Aside from Limb To Limb and Earth none of these tracks lock into any sort of groove for long. Quite the contrary. Ruinism has more tracks that "settle into a groove". Rotted Arp, 4EVA, Essex Is Burning, Flickering, Running To Evaporate, Phase Violet, Tessellate..

Speaking of which, regarding the previous "dancey" comment, tracks like Essex Is Burning, Phase Violet, Running To Evaporate all fit that bill better than anything on here. Some preposterous assessments going around in here right now.

I was assessing the vibe. Ruinism doesn't core as deep into a concept, or an emotion, as Amnio. I stand by that. I just listened to Ruinism today, and it felt more ~superficial~... scattered.

Big Nopes

Ruinism concept is succinct.

Not in comparison to Amnio. It's an exceptional ablum, but this is so much more focused and deep. Damn near spiritual.

I really don't understand the comment that this isn't dancey at all. Maybe the word "dancey" means different things to us. Wouldn't be surprising. Since you're quite into electronic, maybe it has a more technical meaning to you? At any rate, there is some sort of energy to this, which I would label "dancey", that I felt was missing from Ruinism. I'm an electronic pleb so I might be missing a whole lot of similarities between the albums that are more transparent to the more discerning ear. But they sound very, very different to me. And it seems unlikely that I'll be able to make my experience intelligible so guess I'll just leave it at that.

That may be for the best. Too many words can gunk up the gears. As a review, though... this is probably the best this album could've gotten.

i don't really care if you think this is "more focused and deep" thats fine, but we're arguing about the concepts of the two albums. do you understand the concept of ruinism and how that was reflected in its production? the idea itself is just as concise as the idea for this was, but the technical component and execution of said concept is far more involved than it is here, no contest. you can think whatever you want of the end result but the fact of the matter is that the concept behind Ruinism is some of the most unique shit to happen in electronic this decade. If you haven't read about it, you really should. it's amazing.

i would assume that by 'dancey' you meant derivative of electronic genres that people commonly dance to, or that the music itself has a feel that makes people want to dance. neither of which is applicable to the vast majority of the material present on Amnioverse aside from the momentary breaks and d&b stuff, but even that stuff is filtered through pretty ambient and experimental lenses that give it the distinct "armchair" element that makes up everyones favourite term ever 'IDM'. earth is the closest thing to a straight forward drum and bass track so as i mentioned before thats the only song i could really even fathom being considered 'dancey'. there are a couple other fleeting moments in songs that maybe i could see the argument for, but within the context of such dynamic songs it still doesn't make any sense. ruinism on the other-hand has more tracks that "settle into a groove", to use cosmics words, and hypnotic repetition and the closest thing to conventional four-on-the-floor rhythms as Lapalux will go these days are far more prevalent on that album. i already listed examples but if you want to know what i'm referring to, look to Running To Evaporate and Essex Is Burning.

Alright, I'll read up on Ruinism. Going to jam it again, as well. Maybe I'm not describing the aesthetics proper.

Yea, Ruinism's concept is choice. Exploring the threshold between life and death. Well thought out and executed. ~Ruining~ a sound and bringing it back to a coherent medium seems intensely involved. Maybe that's what gives it a "scattered" feel to me. It's more demanding of a focused listener. I feel like I can lose my spot if I'm not fully committed.

Where Amnioverse sounds much more fluid. Exploring the continuum of birth, life, and death. As Lapalux put it - “For me the real focus was that the whole record flowed,” he says. ”I worked on each song sequentially and wouldn’t stop working on a session until they fitted together and told the story that I wanted to tell.”

And that flow creates a sense of being settled into a deep groove. It's not as demanding of the listener. You can just fall into it.

Agreed, although aside from the emphasis on this one on how the tracks flow into each other, the set of influences also kind of inherently enhance flow. Liquid d&b and breaks are like, two of the ~flowiest~ genres out there

More so, this is an album I was able to show a couple people who aren't very affluent in Electronica as a whole... and they were able to get into it. This thing just draws you in.

I'd be hesitant to introduce Ruinism to anyone who's not seasoned in the genre. If I can sound anymore elite, let me know.

Yea, Lustmore is great too. He seems very intrigued by the "in-between" states. I can't quite say what that is, but I can vibe with it.
