so what you're saying is the next Menzingers album will be as good as After the Party? I'm alright with that
the thought has occurred to me. like they do an on point record (impossible past), then a kinda off one (rented world), then another on point one (ATP), another off one (hello exile), etc.

Rented World wasnt off to me. To me, Hello Exile is their first misfire and the likely beginning of their downward spiral that almost every band eventually reaches.

i said this a few pages ago but rented world does have several dud tracks. it has sounded weaker to me over time rather than stronger

rented world was my favorite album for a while but ya the middle section hasn't aged particularly well
|

Album Rating: 4.0
well the middle does at least have "transient love" which is one of their best songs

actually now that i take a look at the tracklist for the first time in ages, the only real dud imo is the talk which still kinda bangs

the talk sucks

it is the only dud, yes. every other song is amazing.
|

i like the talk a lot. not really any clear duds from that album imo although i guess it doesnt finish very strongly with those last two tracks. also dont care for rodent personally but a lotta ppl like that one so w/e

Every song on there has really strong sections, but they don't always make an excellent whole.

i really wish high school friend and last to know were stronger. theyre the only songs here that havent grown on me to be usual menzingers tier but them sounding so similar and being right fucking back to back that early in the tracklist kind of kills a lot of momentum that it takes until portland to really build back up. strangers forever is phenomenal but it being a single meant i already heard the fuck out of it before the release, and hello exile being a slowburner means it kinda takes until the back half to build back up (which it does the second half is fucking outstanding)

i love high school friend but agree about last to know. i really like the main riff in that song but the rest of it doesn't hit me.

it kinda doesnt go anywhere yeah it just kind of meanders. high school friend is the better of the two but besides the pre chorus thing which i really like the song doesnt have much to hook me in. the two songs being in the same key dont help which kind of make them blend into one in spite of one being greg and the other being tom

greg's vocals in high school friend are great which is mostly what makes the song so strong to me. especially when he sings "wonderin' where aaaaallllll the good times went"
