CoL have simply the best use of keys of all the bands. I mean, every record including the old ones has so many little moments where synths or keys really come to the front with some interesting pattern or sound, although the songs are driven by guitars and drums. Then there's Vertikal and Mariner with the most epic space analog synths ever and then there's this freaking masterpiece with those organs and everything mmmm.

I'm not sure how this is getting such hyperbolic acclaim here, its good post metal sure but it doesnt do anything new. It's not CoL's best, its safe and efficient, it is DECENT at a time when post metal is nothing but derivative and exhausted. This is no landmark.

@demon I was specifically talking about the 5s. I think (generally) people reserve the rating for it's intended descriptor (5 - classic) and its weird to see such a landslide of those ratings for this. For me personally yeah of course, this has 5 too many guitars

Its just this band in general mate, They kind of just plod along then have some real interesting sections then go back to plodding Obvs post metal is about atmosphere and build ups and tension and shit but the never captivate me enough to buy into the journey and the same with this. Also the Vox I cant stand and I just generally dont 'Feel' anything by listening to them as a whole minus 'SATH' and the first two as already said. I am gonna give this another go tonight though. Might smoke a lil tweed along with it.

@Pots: some people give out a ton of 5s, in fact you yourself do (for your fave artists), the early raters are likely to be fan-boys. It’ll tail off, always does. I’m interested in where this will settle. Personally it needs more time, but if I was being reactionary I might say it’s their 3rd best release, not prepared to go that far yet though. More like, it’s definitely not their worst.
