You are the only person complaining at everyone enjoying this album, who's crying again? The riffs are catchy af, the basslines are a step above most metal bands, the drummer is a machine, the songs are solid and the production is unique for the genre, all of that combines to make a very good album and you're just buttmad bc a band that isn't part of your "scene" got tons of fanfare and attention for releasing a decent metal album, whereas I'll bet most of your favorite bands languish in obscurity, right?

"You are the only person complaining at everyone enjoying this album, who's crying again?"

I don't know, man. You're the one implying that I don't think this is a metal album, something I never said, so you seem rather butthurt to me considering that you're just making shit up.

"the basslines are a step above most metal bands"

Depending on how you define most metal bands, I guess. Above any NOTABLE metal bands with fairly high quality albums, it's just kind of serviceable. The most notable thing about it is that its audible, which isn't really saying much now.

"the production is unique for the genre"

Probably because a fair amount of this stuff is not really thrash and more just stoner metal. Or just the kind of doom riffing you'd see on Age of Winters or Gods of the Earth. The only songs I can charitably call thrash is Planet B, the tepid Organ Farmer or Self-Immolate. Of course, this wouldn't matter too much if this album was good but it's not.

"whereas I'll bet most of your favorite bands languish in obscurity, right?"

Many of them do, unfortunately.

Nobody but you cares what specific subgenre it is? It's a metal record, it's got elements of thrash, stoner, classic metal, hard rock and they do it pretty well considering they're not even a metal band. The band's draw is how they incorporate various genres into their own unique sound and do their own take on it - that's what makes this better than most average metal records, BECAUSE it's unique and different but familiar and rooted in classic metal tropes. They're not genre tourists tossing off technical workouts, it's clear they're major fans of the music and there's a tongue-in-cheek, loving reverence for it throughout. It sounds to me like you're just mad bc they wrote a metal album that isn't metal / tech enough for you. But thanks for letting us all know it's not a good album, opinions right

This album has infinitely more character and soul than a fucking shit ton of bands who make careers of album art gorn, have a a pile of broken sticks for a band logo, and an unpronounceable name, js. That's why this album and thread has tons of conversation whereas no one cares about the upcoming 5th album from Analphage

There's nothing unique about any of the actual thrash songs on this though. That's the problem. At best, the biggest thing this album brings to the table is the production but frankly, that's not enough.

"It sounds to me like you're just mad bc they wrote a metal album that isn't metal / tech enough for you."

Again, you're pretending as if I have argued that this isn't a metal album or "metal enough", which I've never said. As for it not being techy enough, that's not really the issue. The issue is that even by a lot of non-technical thrash standards, it's still pretty lacking when it comes to writing creative riffs or sections.

"They're not genre tourists tossing off technical workouts, it's clear they're major fans of the music and there's a tongue-in-cheek, loving reverence for it throughout."

The only thing that really comes through is it being tongue-in-cheek, but that's not really anything that's in its favor. An album that also has that quality to some extent is Hard Times Hanging at the End of the World but that album also captures the same influences King Gizzard allegedly had here with far more depth in songwriting. Honestly, if King Gizzard actually put in a modicum of effort in terms of composition, they would have written something more along the lines of that album than this dreck and it's a shame they settled.

As for calling them genre tourists, that's largely something I stand by. These guys are pretty good at writing psych/acid/garage rock and when they stick to that, I like them quite a bit, but it's clear that they have no clue how to write an interesting thrash metal album. Their interest, just going off of this, is more "woah yeah dude i love kill 'em all" and that's it. The only reason anyone cares is because this is King Gizzard, the band that cycles through genres and that's just enough to warrant giving them praise for some. By contrast, you'll see people shit on Testament as being an example of thrash allegedly going nowhere as a genre but Brotherhood of the Snake is way better than this lol

Dude, who the fuck are you arguing with? I don't recall ever bringing up bands with those traits as a point of comparison but here you are strawmanning me.

'That's why this album and thread has tons of conversation'

The album has tons of conversation because Casavir doesn't like it, keeps telling everyone he doesn't like it, and many other people feel it necessary to call him out for being elitist (or other similar/related descriptors).

This probably (also) has conversation/ratings simply because it piques the interest of people who wouldn't normally care about the style(s), this band change up their sound a lot so you're inevitably going to have people looking at this from different perspectives - existing fans and newcomers alike.

'Gatekeeping' any genre is stupid, but then so is calling out someone for 'only liking obscure artists' within said genre (and essentially mocking the artists for that fact). This has crossover appeal, some bands are perhaps have more 'specialist' fanbases. Both can exist. Okay bye.

Y'know what, I'll say it

Mars for the Rich is a brilliant subversion of traditional metal/hard rock lyrical narratives, casting the narrator not as a hero or even an agent, but as a powerless laborer left to die by an indifferent upper class. The musical intensity of the track both highlights the absurdity and the brutal reality of its subjects plight, in an inspired marriage of theming and aesthetic.

Plus the guitar sounds rlly good

I like how it takes a non-metal band to make a metal album for people to actually care about metal lyrics.
