MInneSOta VAHHHHHkingz, amirite fellas?

you're honing in on that so much when I never even said anything about it
my entire issue here has been that you've omitting this in favour of surface-level critiques of your opinion of blandness, with the heavy implication that you thought your opinion of lizzo's penmanship was more important than the album's thematic weight. if this wasn't the case because you genuinely had no idea what it was about then...i'm sorry? and kinda surprised? not to be too patronising, but i credited you with that level of basic awareness (which i assumed was common knowledge) and took everything you said in a decidedly worse light for what seemed like wilful disregard. i understand your attitude a lot better now.
Spreading the message that your body does not have any bearing on your self worth = cool, healthy message. Flexing the fact that you don't exercise and instead eat extra fries is lame as hell and problematic for a number of reasons
cool! not convinced the distinction is that clear-cut, but if you wanna pick apart how healthy or relevant lizzo is as a body positivity role model now that we're clear that this is actually kinda meaningful, go right ahead
so now you're gonna focus in on the least aggressive thing you said
only (re-)referenced 'canadian simpmatrix' bc noler brought it up - fwiw i think a lot of this content has been idiotic (though was perhaps overly harsh for reasons outlined above), but i don't think you're like jordan peterson. i referenced his brand half for shitpost value and half as a suitable comparison for how out of touch you seemed with the album's themes and subculture (which i think has been entirely vindicated by the fact you have only just learned what bopo is)

"I understand that you are but a knowledgeless pleb, it's okay colton, I forgive you."

if you know anything about lizzo she’s actually vegan, eats very healthy foods and exercises. her lyrics aren’t meant for you, not everything is catered to cishet men, you are allowed to think it sucks but giving idiotic reasons is dumb. it’s not for you, that’s all, move on, men don’t have to always comment their opinions on what women mean/their intention in their lyrics
|
| |
nobody even fucking listens to lizzo anymore
|
| |
and frankly, body positivity has nothing to do with being a woman. I don't struggle with weight I guess, poor cishet man
|
| |
@noler if you're gonna carry on orbiting this thread with kneejerk bad-faith takes and shallow jibes because reasons(?), the acc reduction is "you were being dumb, but not nearly as dumb as i thought you were (m'bad)". still holding that beer.
|
| |
so you admit you were being dumb
|
| |
it was unfair of me to assume colton didn't know what body positivity was and that his following posts amounted to active callousness as a result, yes. you can do the math for where trashposting lizzo without knowing what bopo is lands on that metric
|
| |
maybe you should stop assuming that you are morally superior to someone because they don't know one fucking word in your PC course packet.
|

yall are still talking about this lmaooo

lololol

this got personal

it's mid day for us and it's cloudy out, this ain't shit

I never said anything about my opinion on its blandness being more important than the album's thematic weight
if you omit something entirely from your opinion until it's forced into the discussion, it's a pretty clear indication of what you consider important. imo - and this is my approach to music discussion fwiw - i do think that broadcasting opinions of your own gratification over the top of/with disregard to their themes and platform carries a statement of validity, and there are a lot of artists where i wouldn't be comfortable doing this. this clearly isn't something that matters as much to you - fair enough - i don't like critiquing an artist without engaging with their wider voice and platform where possible, and from that perspective you initially came across as dismissive in a way that struck me as self-entitled and vaguely toxic (in a way generally applicable to a lot of takes here)
This is not a unique issue to Lizzo but I just find it kinda annoying on this album. I don't know why you immediately interpreted this as a critique of those actual themes as a whole
because you were so quick to reduce them to twitter fodder. i appreciate your take on this album much more now that you're actually unpacking it, but for the reasons just above, your manner came off as dismissive to the extent that it seemed to treat those themes as irrelevant
if youre gonna say "my bad" to colton, actually say it
with the best will in the world, no. this has been petty and facile and i'm embarrassed for engaging with it, but i stand by the og comments here. who the fuck is colton to swing that lizzo's vision of self-empowerment, in the crosshairs of which he finds himself not one bit, might as well be written specifically as twitter bait because it can be read as a series of slogans and strikes him personally as bland? i'm sorry for dragging peterson and associated online subculture slurs into this and for any excessively dismissive overtones in my following responses, but otherwise i have zero regrets about my stance here
tl;dr colton should perhaps be more considerate about how he expresses himself over artists when their platform isn't oriented towards his gratification, i should take colton's opinions in better faith, noler should stay out of discussions where he has nothing constructive to contribute, norma and planetary should post more often
am now sleeping mucho deeply

great discussion, high fives all around
drinks on me

“with the best will in the world, no.”
And with that, Johnny ascended upon a chariot of golden flame, singing songs of jubilee as he anticipates dining with St. Peter in those sweet, pearly halls.
