it is with a deep sense of regret that I must report that I totally hear the "pure comedy"/"a lot's gonna change" type comparison

I mean I think lucid is right that it's more a shared influence (a lot of people heard randy newman in Pure Comedy? Though that's lyrical too....mb jackson browne???) than it is weyes copping from FJM but yeah something about the way the emphasis falls across the piano chords and the dissonance/diminished chords very much reminds me of that album and in particular the title track. that's mostly as regards the opener, "a lot's gonna change," though
opinion on this album forthcoming but i'm not in love with it
e: obviously FJM's acidic personality, which is generally not appealing to me, is in such overdrive on Pure Comedy though so it's hard to compare the overall effect to this but yah somethin about it...

it's funny because i agree with you regarding feelings towards fjm's music but i still love this anyway. i can see why people are drawing parallels but they're not as apparent to me. i will say though, i wasn't initially in love with this. andromeda was the first song i heard and i thought it was boring, but after hearing it 2 or 3 times i really came around to the album. definitely think it lacks immediacy, although it doesn't sound like subsequent plays will make you like any more.

she's clearly got writing chops and it's also clear that those chops aren't linked to immediate pleasures, or at least not obvious ones, it's more complex than that so i'm sure i'll love it in due time

Not gonna lie I came into this with huge expectations and they were definitely not met at first but after multiple listens they ended up being surpassed

this was really beautiful, definitely my AOTY so far and movies could be my SOTY. the first two singles had to grow on me but the rest of the album was really immediately gorgeous.

This is overrated both here as on rym, though rym was to be expected, bit surprised so many people like it on sputnik.
It's a pleasant album with it's dreamy atmosphere and soothing sound, but it doesn't do anything for me, it barely ever grabs my attention.
Andromeda, everyday and mirror forever are fantastic songs though, wild time has it's moments too, the other songs are enjoyable but rather bland. Overall just not impressed.
