Again, you are wrong. The only thing that got a vocal hatred from people was the snl performance and even that got more like than dislikes.

Their critical reception has always been lukewarm, and there has always been a very vocal hate-base. Tbh hating this band is much much more hipster then just not giving a single fuck about them.
It’s like the people who go out of their way to say “oh and I hate nickleback and country music haHA”.
|
| |
"Tbh hating this band is much much more hipster then just not giving a single fuck about them."
I don't even know what hipster means anymore, so I'll just have to agree with you.
|
| |
Hipster... I wonder what that word was supposed to mean in the first place...
|
| |
Hipster = taking pride in being against a cultural trend, when in reality the hatred of the pop-trash is a cultural trend in itself.
AKA the 50th thinkpiece written on Sputnik Dot Com about why this band is, actually, terrible.
I think some people actively enjoy listening to music that they hate.
|
| |
^ so it's not hipster to hate this band. I thought you said otherwise. Now I really don't get it.
|
| |
In that case people who hate hipsters are hipsters too because being hipster is also a trend. Such a dumb and meaningless word.
Also, next time you want to call me a hipster just do it instead of going "some people".
|
| |
Alexander I don’t ever address you anymore, what makes you think I was talking to/about you lmao.
Forget the word hipster, it’s meaning is vague. What I’m saying “I hate Greta van fleet” is the new “I hate nickleback.” Every actual musically inclined person knows this band is trash, so it’s such a worthless thing to place aggression towards.
Plus when I really think about artists I despise, I tend to think about what kind of influence they will have on impressionable minds. The only influence this band will have is maybe checking out Zep and picking up a guitar.
|
| |
Don't know, probably that I've said before that I do something like that but whatever. Anyway, I hate everything and music sucks so I'm ok with people hating this.
|
| |
Its influence could also be showing music biz people that crudely cannibalizing the sounds of beloved artists from decades past is still a bankable strategy but I suppose only time will tell
|
| |
Popular music sounds like shit anyway, why should people care?
|
| |
" Every actual musically inclined person knows this band is trash" not true btw
|
| |
What is a musically inclined person?
|
| |
Another vague ass term I like to use.
Yeah the music industry is just now figuring out that ripping off old artists sells lol.
|
| |
Eh, fair enough.
|
| |
Keep I mind I said "still". Of course ripoff artists have been around for a while, but every new successful one continues to be depressing because it shows that as a culture we *still* haven't gotten any wiser.

The wannabe ethical consumer in me wants to hate these guys for shamelessly cashing in on the "retro" style to make money, but when I listen to them, it's nowhere near as terribad as it could be. Production is solid, these guys clearly know how to play their instruments, and even the vocals aren't THAT bad. Shit, I can't even say much negative about that SNL performance other than it's clear their singer was having an off day.

That being said, unless they shake shit up, they're not going to last much longer.
|
| |
Yeah next year they will release a masterpiece after a year in the studio. Its gonna be the Pet Sounds of radio rock.
