This album... what a weird one, really. The songs are great and all, but it's hard to get the same feeling of urgency from most of them, like you could on the previous albums. This feels almost laid back at times, there is no emotional upheaval compared to their previous works. And the new melodic style of some songs? Can't help but think it feels banal. I much preferred their dissonant style with black metal minor chords to be honest

Still, probably gonna be a grower, since I love the shit outta the title track and several more tracks as well

Not as good as ATF or AWLWLB but this is still pretty great. I gotta say though, the title track didn't impress me much. It's odd as title tracks tend to be in the top tier songs on a Converge album for me. I just thought it dragged a bit much, the riff got a bit repetitive to me. I would have appreciated more variation in the middle of the song.

On a side note as well, Repitilian is definitely one of their weakest closing tracks.

Arkhipov Calm is the tits. Might be my favorite on this record. So much clean vocals on this record. Still not sure how I feel about it, I'll have the whole day to listen to it though.
This album is definitely their most varied work.

nah it's slightly below those three albums, and I get what he means, its sorta tame for a converge album

I was a bit worried about the melodic approach and lack of that Converge insanity when I first heard A Single Tear, but then Eye of The Quarrel comes after it and it's all good again. songs are really varied on this, but they work so much better now than like stand alone singles.

I never said it wasn't I have the bloody flag on my wall, but this that was an album that fit very neatly within a box. This is definitely a lot more wide-swinging

yea this is far from tame, they go really nuts on some of these songs. atf was a different kind of beast, it was sprinting all the way to the final two tracks, this one moves in waves.

Yeah, you do have to admit the variety is there at the very least
|

AtF is probably my favourite but I haven't listened to Converge since their last album so I don't even know anymore

ATF has insane riffs and loads of energy so idk what you're talking about. I'm not here saying this album is bad though by any stretch of the word, it's just slightly below those albums for me.

I think the only song I ever care to go back to now is Wretched World. That one still does wonders for me
