guys, how can anyone possibly claim this is one of their weakest offerings in the '80s

80's maiden and the term 'weak' might as well be considered an oxymoron

@Myth: Quite easily on the basis of its inconsistency.

The album isn't weak, but it isn't as strong as the others of this era. It has great highs, but its mid-section is a mixed bag, something many problems like Maiden seem to face.

"Sun And Steel" and "Quest for Fire" are the weak tracks. The rest is top notch, or close.

"Where Eagles Dare" is a bit long imo, but it's pretty great too.

I'd call Powerslave more inconsistent than this. From this I listen all but two songs, which I still appreciate, whule from Powerslave I listen half songs (bookends) and the others I don't even remember.

Powerslave is inconsistent too yeah but I'd say its slightly more cohesive and has the higher highs.

@Myth. You need to revisit broski. Everything on Powerslave rules.

@mike. Yes, it dwells and repeats.. in the kind of meditative manner, which is part of the signature style of Maiden. And here they still knew how to make it flow, unlike in some of their later releases.

I do agree with that. My biggest beef with their post-80's albums is making albums that either drag for too long or are short but bland. That's not to say everything is that way because they've made some astounding longer tracks throughout their career. "The Sign Of The Cross," as much as people don't like Blaze, is a good example.

This is a sentimental one for me. The first Maiden release I ever bought.....on cassette. 32 years on & I never get tired of hearing The Trooper.

Agree Titan. Revelations is a definite highlight, while I think Still Life is underrated. It's not perfect, but it still stands up today as a great album.
