jari isn't the best at mixing at the best of times. not only that but the album suffered from the fact there were so many details in the music that will have had jari shouting "i'm sure the listeners can hear this!" but because he was so used to hearing them and his brain was attuned to hearing them through the mix, even with great gear, listeners just can't hear shit - especially in the orchestration/synth. this is why he should have had someone else mix this who had a totally fresh perspective on the mix. as such what we got was a total fucking mess.
for real, when i was listening to each individual bit on its own and i'd hear a detail i didn't notice i'd swap back to the original master and actually try hearing it with the knowledge it's there. it's simply impossible. try it yourself:

go to 5:41 in the loneliness orchestration track. it's the first time the chorus comes in on that track. listen to all that noodly synth. go back to the song and TRY and hear it. you actually fucking can't, even if you try. there's no fucking point.
and just for the record i fixed this simply with the slightest bit of eq tweaking, i didn't even have to push up the synth in the mix, showing how easily avoidable shit like this
and hell it'd sound even better by having a dude in a studio do it rather than some embittered gay bloke in his bedroom have a shot at it

i mean my guess is his perfectionism complex, he thinks only he can get his vision right but no one actually has the guts to tell him that he can't actually pull it off because he's not that good at mixing records

Mix is the worst. I saw them live back in September and the songs from this one sounded pretty poor live too. Eternal Darkness I remember being specially awful. Otherwise it was a nice gig
