This album was the first and only Beatles album I've ever heard and I loved it to bits and certainly hasn't dated since it was released. Love it.

I agree with this. Just judge it on how good or consistent the music is. Anyway something quite crappy or just average may have been influential as well, so no point judging on something like influence or 'importance'.
