there is a spectrum between real life and entertainment. you can argue that the closer that something gets to real life (engaging more senses, implying stakes, etc.) makes a medium more powerful, but as soon as you get too close, the appeal dies. not sure where kendrick's discog falls in that spectrum, but it's certainly toying with it

You kids miss the entire point. I was simply pointing out the dichotomy that in society we so easily rate films after one viewing but somehow have to listen to records tens of times before having a say. When done correctly I think film is more nuanced than music, yet film it's never seen as needing 10-20 views to have a solid opinion, when so much more can be missed in a film I'd argue then music. Yes, I generally listen to a record more than once before rating, I just think the double standard between mediums is hypocritical and apparently that's a heretical point of view so I'll continue drinking tonight...

you bring up some solid points
but acting like people are 'missing the point' instead of acknowledging that you're bringing in new ideas to back up your sentiments is weak
sure, film offers a larger sensual spectrum for creation and communication, but that doesn't make it superior, just different. if it was super dense and taking advantage of every sense it can communicate, it would be overwhelming.
there's a limit to every medium

I'm pretty chill, if anything someone earlier was wondering how someone could have an opinion after one listen and I'm just saying why not

I think it's a very ordinary stipulation to say that if a person can like or dislike a movie in one viewing that the same can be made of music. In fact I'll take it further, I think a person can better analyze a single song from an artist and determine whether they'd enjoy an album from said artist than viewing a trailer and determining whether they'd enjoy the movie or not. I'd say more people enjoy movies where they disliked the trailer than enjoy artists where they disliked the singles. Of course this argument isn't perfect so I'm sure everyone can rebuttal me into oblivion

i'm not sure what you mean by "taller"
but i agree with the rest of what you posted
denser mediums require more processing, and (good) film offers a lot of density

No you're right they aren't perfectly analogous, but honestly with films duderoo, I don't think it's essential to view it twice and I'm not sure if its a double standard or hypocritical either, given that the main enjoyment with film is simply the feeling of discovering the plot alongside characters with meaningful arcs.

plot revelation has a lot to do with understanding the film as a whole for sure
i've been paying a lot more attention to opening shots and early scenes for that reason

I'm away at a friend's house for the weekend so I'm posting on my phone, so some typos here and there, which I try and fix after the fact. My overall point is I don't think it's ridiculous to rate music after one listen, just like it's not ridiculous to rate a movie after one viewing, and of course there's nuances in both that can change the initial rating after further listenings/viewings

has no one mentioned the ungodly amount of chorus effect they put on the Pride instrumental

You get a lot more information from a movie after one viewing than you do with music. You will miss many details with both, but the bulk of a movie is visual data which is much easier to remember than audio and most tend to follow a pretty linear narrative/story, while albums are (generally) a bunch of smaller, individual tracks with their own thing going on, and potentially a bigger picture to follow as well.
