I'm digging this one, especially the softer songs like Silent Gold, Angels Of Broken Things, If This Is The End.
But imo nothing here sucks, it's all enjoyable. Liking the kinky moments, too.
It's still somehow flawed though, but I can't put my finger on it.

I think it lacks the really exciting moments to make it engaging over its whole length. Still a light 4 atm

Yea, that's probably it.

I loved remedy lane and the perfect element back in the day but I just am not feeling this one whatsoever, it's difficult to even make it through an entire song of this now. A lot changes in 7 years since I've been into these guys though

I strongly disagree.

"prog metal has always been the issue..."
I absolutely disagree too. Prog metal is the cream, or if you prefer, the soul of metal. Without it, metal would be too much equal and boring. Terribly boring, I say.

But that sounds like you wanted to imply that metal that isn't progressive is boring. If that's the case then that's another thing to disagree with.

No, it wasn't my intention. What I wanted to say is that without prog, the metal in general could be boring.

I think I get it now and I also think that I agree, to a degree. If a metal band that tries to explore the possibilities of the "metal" sound is automatically progressive in one way to another, it's obvious that a genre would stop evolving without such a movement.
With albums like this one, however ... I don't think it adds much to the variety or evolvement of the genre, same with most other prog metal albums coming out these days. It's become its own sub genre with a certain sound and certain conventions which is what is holding it down imo.
Well, it's a bit complicated because "prog/progressive" are terms that can be understood in many different ways. As soon as it is seen as a genre (and not just as a movement), it will stop evolving, as far as I see it.
