The grim atmosphere on this album reminds me a lot of Benediction's earlier albums. I wasn't actually expecting too much from this when I first heard it since I've only ever listened to Darkthrone's Black Metal era albums (From 'A blaze...' to 'Panzerfaust') as well as their latest, 'The underground resistance'. Most of the songs on here are just solid slabs of Death Metal, nothing else. The vocal effects can be terrifying to say the least, and the bass work is prominent throughout. 'Accumulation of generalization' and 'Nor the silent whispers' don't really do anything for me, but the album is generally a consistent one, and not a bad place to start with Darkthrone either.

This is a good album. Not their worst but not even close to their best.



Also to the one guy who said it ranks up there with the first four Death albums... Can you say delusional? This album is not even Top 10 of 1991.



The best thing about the album is drumming. Decent vocals, but average riffs and no memorable solos. The bass has it's moments.
