surprised this album has gained so much appeal. Guess I'm just way out of the mood to listen to this much even though I'm seeing DT tonight. Eh maybe in a year this will be a 3 for me.

or seeing them live changed my mind about the album quickly.
They played 6 tracks off it: the first four, The Pitiless and Our Proof of Life (I believe)

I thought the set flowed along really well, and I enjoyed the live performances of the new tracks a whole hell of a lot.

Forward Momentum was awesome live.
I like the slower tracks on this record. Tracks like the pitiless, neutrality or encircled pale in comparison to the more atmospheric numbers like our proof of life, atoma, forward momentum, or faithless by default. Our Proof of Life especially is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

I agree completely, Crysis. The faster, heavier sections don't suit them as well as they used to.

They need to play the bonus tracks live
Force of hand is really good, especially the chorus
"Our Proof of Life especially is quickly becoming a favorite of mine"
The E-bow sliding lead part is so good, it pisses me off that it didn't last longer

I like the faster tracks just because they give the album a good sense of urgency to contrast the more atmospheric stuff. Think they found a good balance here. And Caves and Embers is a sick closer, would love to see that live

Yeah, the balance is one of the things I like the most.

Its better than I expected. The bonus tracks have me hopeful regarding their future direction

I thought the bonus tracks were pretty bad tbh. Yeah Stanne's singing is nice but the tracks go nowhere and do nothing. If that's a sign of things to come I'm worried.

Idk I think this slays really hard.

The bonus tracks are still safe in general terms, but for DT it's a side step. And if they take more risks and push themselves harder, they can make that direction more interesting. Not sure what they'll do

You've been saying that for so long OmairSh

Yeah, I think you're trapped in having some expectations they'll never meet.

I really enjoyed this on first listen but I haven't listened to it since. I need to digest this better before solidifying my rating.

@benkim, Evo: Haha yeah I know I know, but before these bonus tracks it was just hope. But with these tracks mayyyyyybe there's some evidence that they read my mind

lol haven't heard this one yet but I totally hear you. The band is actually totally capable of what you are saying but I guess they don't just feel it at the moment. If they could also return to the insane melodies on The Galleries I'd also be happy.

The Gallery was released 21 years ago bro asking them to go back to that is probably unrealistic.
