I know, I try hard every time but it just doesn't click for me. Love this band though, just not hitting me like they used to.

They're def losing steam, but this is still quality as hell. I wouldn't expect another TSIB from them at this point.

I'd be surprised if this got more than one or two more spins before the end of the year

that's the thing about their records: the more you listen to them the more you'll enjoy them. no other band rewards you for your efforts like neurosis.

This probably slays, but I can't see them being around for another 15 years honestly.

Normally yeah I would agree with their old stuff because there was so much going on and so many movements, this and the one before it though were pretty straight forward. Heavy slow riffing leads into quiet string bendy part followed by faster riffing section so on and so on. Not a lot to pick up on repeated listens for me.

Go easy on me.

its tough because with these guys the expecations are always so freaking high cause they are normally such nuanced, detailed, effortless songwriters. every record is so drastically different from the last musically, sonically, etc. but they almost always deliver you brilliantly written songs. these songs were just, eh some great and some weak. after 3 listens im trying to find ways to tell myself its better than a 2.5/3 but its not. but it IS better than the last album which was a piece of crap. the end of neurosis is near. how can you blame them for christs sake theyve been like the best songwriters in metal for a LONG time.

it's not like the new songs are structured very differently than the older stuff

the structure isn't necessarily different but the content/delivery is. eye of every storm was the creative peak of their songwriting imo and they've been siginificantly weaker ever since, although some of Gttr is vintage neurosis, but not all of it. i mean how long can you go on making records as good as your best? they put out souls and made records that good pretty much for the following decade and a half. how do you continue that? you dont. these dudes are like 55 and decay was def the beginning of the end. thats me saying it as a fanboy.

not tryna hate, but provide context. yeah ok this isnt that great (imo) but the band that released it has had one of the most consistent careers of any metal band ever

decay was just another solid outing though. different, but it still sounds like neurosis without being repetitive. if you enjoy the previous stuff that they did with albini, i don't see how you could view it as horrible. like i don't love teoes like many seem to, but it's still an awesome album. i view gttr as a neurosis hitting another peak in their career.

also i'm not sure any of them are even 50 yet.

love most of the albini produced stuff but honor in decay was horrible imo. really bad songwriting lazy vocal performances, boring whole tracks

eye of every is like, the best album ever made. relentlessly genius songwriting on that one, perfectly paced, perfect atmospheric tension from burn to i can see you.

and eh u could be right thought scott kelly was at least 50 but hes 49 but still...they old haha

Youre always going to be compared to your back catalogue when its great as Neurosis' but again...people harping on about how its not Eye or TSIB are talking about songs that were written10/20 years ago. Probably more than half a lot of peoples age on here OF COURSE this is different. Its kind of trimmed, Purified and distilled (no pun intended on both) but FOR ME it doesnt lose anything of what makes them them. If anything it enhances it. Theyve moved on, Theyve matured even more.

If youve seen them live lately they still put on better shows than 99% of any 'young' band. Ill settle for another 20 years of Neurosis at this level thanks. Theyre n where near donr.

Scotts solo shit when hes 80 will still be dope af
