TPAB is conceptually, structurally and musically better. However, some of these untitled tracks reach that level of TPAB greatness for me, like 1, 2 and 7.

Not better than tpab, but the sound that made it such an instant classic is shown here. 5 & 8 are best.

Except sans terrible tracks like king Kuna, I, and U so you could argue it's actually better musically

Yeah, untitled unmastered has the same soundscapes as TPAB. I said TPAB is musically better because it builds that sound up in a more meticulous and less sloppy way. It's catchier and thinks more out of the box (the blood-pumping jazz interlude that is "For Free?", the bottle-swishing sounds on "u", the talk with 2Pac at the end of "Mortal Man", etc). Also, TPAB has no terrible tracks in my opinion, every single song on it is absolutely incredible. Even "You Ain't Gotta Lie", which is easily the record's weakest spot.

untitled unmastered actually has a few duds in my opinion. untitled 3 needs more musical development (the live version on The Colbert Report is way better imo) and untitled 4 is a cute interlude but could use some development as well.

but everything besides those is fire

5, 7, 2 and 6 can stand toe to toe with anything on tpab

I wouldn't say 5 or 6, but 2 and 7 definitely can stand toe to toe with most of TPAB. Also, 1 doesn't get enough love.

this one comes off a little more 'complacent' in a sense...

not a bad thing tho. TPAB is so angsty at times it boarders overbearing and nearly collapses under its own weight multiple times throughout the album. this sort of self-satisfied energy here is pretty comfortable in the scheme of hip-hop as a genre and it leaves less room to ebb in quality when kendrick pushes his agenda beyond the capabilities of his music like it does here and there on pimp.

Surprised I found multiple copies of this on CD while at best buy, didn't think it would get a CD release, copped Blackstar instead though.
