Fantano thinks it's OK.
I've always been a massive fanboy - the Resistance completely shut me off to them, and the 2nd Law is one of those records that would have been much more enjoyable were it by someone else.
So going into this I didn't hugely have high hopes, especially on initially hearing 'Psycho' - but I actually really liked this solidly as an album from start to finish. Even 'Revolt', because I'm apparently a pop-loving bender who doesn't know when to reign it in.
Not a popular view, but I really liked this quite a bit.

Metacritic is only as reliable as the sources it draws it's scores from. For instance, that Kerrang 100 review for Drones skews everything. It's an alright place to get a general feel for whether an album is good or not, but that's about it.

ill never understand the dislike for absolution. OoS i can kinda get cause the second half isnt as good as the first but still up until citizen erased-micro cuts its a 5/5 imotbqh

I kind of get the love for Origin of Symmetry because Muse's sound got quite a bit bigger and bolder but for some reason I genuinely don't like basically the whole album. And there's a few songs that I really like some parts of but I think the songwriting gets a bit questionable (especially Bliss, that chorus is so obnoxious).
I don't think I've listened to it in the last year or so though, so it might be time to listen to it again.

I've always swayed more towards Absolution, although I will never enjoy Time Is Running Out, it bores me to tears.
But tracks like Endlessly and Thoughts of a Dying Atheist just resonate and close out the album a lot better than on OOS.
