I have listened to this album exactly once, but 'Waitress' approximately twenty times. Almost worthy of a 4.0 on the strength of that track alone, goddamn.
Have to give it another full listen very soon. Something about her voice is messy in the best possible way.

Waitress is a standout for sure, but there are a lot of gems and a few growers here. She takes her tone places that probably shouldn't coexist within the same note and it's glorious as anything

Edited my message because I guess I kind of still overlook “Texas Funeral” and “I Saw My Twin” wonderful as they are. The first half of this album particular is just absolutely fucking sick so sometimes I do neglect the back half.

Happy to See Me and Horseshoe Crabs were deep cuts for me, both took a while to grow but I always look forward to them now. tbh the only song I could forget is I Saw My Twin, rest is pure killer
could never overlook the back half bc Well-Dressed is probably the best Hop Along song

Kind of but I’ve honestly never gotten very into it despite loving everything else Quinlan has made.

Agrd Get Disowned is prob my least preferred Hop Along (all relative to that high ass bar ofc), Frances is on point but the music doesn’t feel nearly as adventurous

Yeah it feels like a bridge between the raw youthfulness Freshman Year and the full-band rock confidence found here. There’s some really great stuff there but some songs either don’t quite click or feel like they’re trying a bit too hard.
|
| |
Get Disowned is the best, wonderfully awkward stuff all round. Huge growing pains album, but if that ain't what Frances' delivery was made for idk what is
everybody is a little hard to love sometimes etc
