Basically, "5" this or you might look stupid 20 years from now. I'll take my chances, especially considering in 20 years my opinion of this album will be irrelevant. It's barely even relevant now.

Nah, not even, I feel like a lot of people don't look at Hip-Hop as an equal to guitar-driven music. Therefore when seemingly preposterous claims like "The DSOTM of our generation" or what ever is made, its laughed at.
I'm not saying this will be the DSOTM of our generation, but I'm not laughing at the proposition. I wouldn't be surprised to see this album bolstered, the way DSOTM is now, in 20 years.

i have a feeling this will be looked back on as a classic of the 21st century not just of hip hop but of music in general

not sure what says what is relevant and what isn't but i'm guessing it's hype and influence and in that case this album is up there and will continue to be

hype, influence, and lasting popularity mostly

well yeah anyway to further comment on the preachiness, the review said it well, you look at the lyrics and different songs and it's not representing a single viewpoint and slugging it down your throat. it's just this open sort of black culture thing with different shit thrown in.

king kunta is probably the worst song here other than 'i' and that stupid boo boo song

I've noticed people complaining about the "cry rapping" in u but I actually really like the way his voice compliments the screechy sax.

I do kind of think that the clinking bottles might be overkill though.

I'm with sowing. Great record but I'm getting tired of the "5 this or GTFO" mentality.

What's funny is that in 20 years this will, in all likelihood, be looked at as one of the greatest hip-hop record of the 21st century. If not the greatest.
in 20 years people will probably be cyborgs and computer chips will erase everyone's memory of race history and this album won't make any goddamn sense at all.
I'm not saying this will be the DSOTM of our generation, but I'm not laughing at the proposition.
I am...and I consider plenty of rap albums comparable or better than DSOTM. this album does the exact opposite of revolutionary timeless album's like dark side of the moon, dark side of the moon created harmony by showing all humans are essentially the same and experience extraordinarily similar lives, this album is nothing of the sort, the topic is not revolutionary, its banal, its the most discussed topic in all of rap, and he didn't really do a whole lot to build on the topic except maybe on Blacker the Berry... the only way this excels is its aesthetics, or its catchiness.
this is tight for what it is but cmon dude "shit don't change til you get up and wash your ass nigga" is not going to be remembered among lines like "you run you run to catch up with the sun but its sinking, racing around to come up behind you again, the sun is the same in a relative way but your older, shorter of breathe, and one day closer to death."

Someone explain to me how this album compares to DSOTM...it's one thing to say you like it as much as / more than, and an entirely different thing to consider them similar
