Slayer and Megadeth are great. But prime Metallica was and always will be in a different league. Were talking about the difference between 2 great thrash bands that are top 10-15 of all time vs probably the most acclaimed Iconic and probably the second most influential metal band in general after Sabbath.

No, sadly. That's why I make up for it with the name. Perception is reality; right.

I love Justice and it is easily my favorite Metallica (and second favorite thrash album overall), and Rust isn't too far behind... but PoT is in a league of its own, IMO.

Agreed with Metallica being in a different league. Puppets and Justice are so far ahead of anything anyone else did aside from Rust in Peace. Reign in Blood having that high of an avg is absolutely insane to me

There is no fucking universe where it is better than Justice, equal to Rust and RtL and almost as good as Puppets

Prime Slayer > Prime Metallica

Agreed. Prime Slayer is by far the most brutal and heavy of the big 4.

This offers gleeful joy, Metallica offers a more considered, middle class joy.

Prime Slayer was one of the few bands I was listening to as a kid when I wasn't listening to Prime Metallica.

Prime Slayer for me ends with RiB tho

Let me break it down for y'all.

Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss > Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All (it would be closer if there was any bass on this album).

I think seasons is actually my favorite overall, but their first 5 are all perfect

I dunno fellas, they’re my favorite overall of the big 4

ALTHOUGH rust in peace is my favorite album of the bunch

And I’m sure if Metallica continued being an actual band instead of a business they’d eventually be my favorite overall after all these decades of their style

Nah, the best Slayer album isn't anywhere close to those 3 Metallica albums. Also, prime Metallica can actually write solos.

It is for sure a great album run and tbf, Slayer do have a few great solos but they are mostly on their debut. Slayer is great for pure riffage but I find Metallica does more. Like, Slayer could never make Orion.

Well yeah but Metallica would never make a song as insane and intense as Angel of Death. They're trying to accomplish different things, Slayer wouldn't make a song with a solo trying to pull at your heart strings or sense of nostalgia.

The solos are meant to be erratic and chaotic, it enhances the atmosphere. Metallica is a little tame compared to Slayer.
