Like Siren Charms definitely deserves that 2.1 but I'm not sure if the 1.9 on Battles is really as necessary since I see that as a step up from Siren Charms.

All that boils down to the music you make vs % target userbase here. And people will always perceive your music differently to how you perceive it.
Personally, I never gave a shit about how good the band's lyrics are, so if the music itself is boring to me, I will always rate it low. Which kinda explains why I hate 90% of indie bands. So if your music is lyrics-based, then I'm definitely out of your target audience. This is just an example btw

It's not really lyrics based in the sense that I hinge the entire composition on my lyricism, but it definitely treads around the alt-rocky side of things, maybe alt-metal depending on the song.
