google images search plastic house on base of sky and there's an image of the packaging. its badass and very telling, also has lyrics for each track. includes a repeat of three images: a needle (syringe), a satellite, and a knife. pretty neat.

many things about the new one resonated with my subconscious in a profound way quickly. its totally strange yet has a quality to it that is eerily familiar. the sound of it reminds me of really heavily advanced, strictly technology-based society filled with sensory overload at every turn and its on the verge of collapse or some insane transformation. but the imagery is vivid and clear. im always amazed at driver's ability to do this kind of auditory painting with such ease. with phobos it was love on first listen, totally took me to an amazing and very specific visual space. coffins however took me a few listens, i wasnt too keen on assassination of adam at first in the context of the album, but i learned to dig it hard. one of my faves from this now.

new interview, toby talks about the new album, talks about the influence for it coming heavily from the anime film composer Susumu Hirasawa. pretty interesting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeaahO5a560

Cool little interview. Listening to Phobos again now. Very dense album. I really enjoy it but I'm still not sure what I think of it right now. It feels strangely familiar and fresh at the same time somehow.

I know him, he does the soundtracks for Satoshi Kon's stuff and I can definitely hear the influence sound wise on Phobos

It's an incredible song, the synths are so good.
Relistened to this in between jamming the new one and I definitely prefer this, despite the repetition with those outros of Offramp Cycle and Library, otherwise this'd easily be one of Kayo Dot's best. It probably still is tbh, Spirit Photography is so enchanting and I love the lyrics.

new album sounds like 80s new wave/post punk

i mean, i guess. i can see the new wave/post punk vibes on here much more than the very minor role they play on the new one. i can definitely see the huge hirasawa influence on it though, especially with rings of earth. sounds like a proggy, even more spaced out track off of aurora
