I had time to go through the new Low Roar album about 3 times now. My thought after 3 spins: There are parts of this album where all of those comparisons made are spot on (mainly Radiohead - though I hear more The King of Limbs here than Kid A-, Sigur Ros, Bon Iver). It has some awesome parts, some really beautiful songs, but as a whole album is just coming off as "good" or even "really good" but not great. A lot of the songs and even the album as a whole can be summed up as: beautiful but never hits that "a-ha!" moment for me personally like the comparison artists. Lots of gorgeous tunes that don't build to the same crescendos as radiohead or sigur ros do so masterfully. It will still probably be a good fall/winter album for me this year.
3.5 on the first 3 listens however it certainly has the potential to grow on me and generate that a-ha! moment still.
