My only real issue with the new album is that I thought the last song wasn't as strong as it should've been.

Revisiting this now and it's way better than I remember. The worst parts are the out of place pop-y parts and every time John sings the word "you" ("youueeeeuuuuh"), but other than that he brings a great performance and there's lots of melodic stuff that's great.
