Werd, that's nice of you to say.
You, however, love Swallow the Sun so I can't respect you...
j/k j/k ;)
Hope is better than I remember. I listened to them before I was into funeral doom. I'm more used to the pace of that type of music now. I think I need to give them more time than I have.
How come this doesn't do much for you?

the first red flag was when people were freaking out about their odd time signatures and crazy song structures but when I checked them out, they weren't nearly as cool as I kept hearing, plus the vocals annoyed me, so I guess you can say I expected too much from what I heard about it and it didnt follow up that way with me. that explanation could loosely go with my feelings about Disillusion I suppose, though opinions can change so we'll seeThis Message Edited On 10.28.08

That honestly makes a lot of sense. I felt that way about Opeth (and still do to a certain extent).
I think their songwriting/structuring is actually much better on Traced in Air, and I agree, Vocals here get in the way for the most part, but they flow/meld/go perfectly on TIA. Might be worth a shot.

That wasn't even slightly witty.

Cleaner sound, better transitions, much better vocals, and you can pick out individual insturments easier. Songwritting (the flow of each track, and even tha album as a whole) improved. More catchy parts, more sublime soft sections, executed better. It just has so much feeling.

They also had poor songwriting skills and inexperience!
clearly not if they came out of the studio with this. if you want to hear poor songwriting skills listen to the portal demo.

Yeah, the songwritting on this is by no means bad. Actually, it's rather excellent, and fucking amazing for a debut. One would expect TIA to have better songwritting, someone mentioned all the time they had to practice lol. But it actually has MUCH better flow and transitions, something that's very important to me.

I disagree with Traced having better transistions, at least Focus had better transistions from heavier sections to melodic. I'm but a wave to is an excellent example of that.
Whereas Traced just seemed to have really force heavier sections and out of placed growls i.e. The Unknown Guest. This Message Edited On 10.28.08

I didn't find anything "out pf place". And actually, exactly how you feel about TIA's soft/heavy transitions is exactly how I feel about them on here.

Both are awesome, but Traced In Air seems to be more easier to listen to for some people.

thats because its not as good
edit: not really its because it has less death growls and more clean sectionsThis Message Edited On 10.28.08

That sounds like a logical reason. Those two things certainly contribute to why I prefer it, especially the latter.

I think a big reason people like Traced in Air more is because THE ROBOT VOCALS ARE MORE SINGING.
Which is a pretty lame reason, but still, both albums are fantastic.
