yeah Tilian's an awesome vocalist, prefer him over Jonny big time. Kurt's always been my favorite though

I gotta agree. DGD has matured a bit. This is still a great record though

matured equals writing really boring songs that are all about the vocals OK

pretty much. also the vocals are less appealing too, so that's an extra bonus.

why did they call a song doom and gloom? is there a rolling stones reference in it or no?

Kinda missing the point there, Rob.

Many of these songs are really solid from a songwriting standpoint. How dependent they are on vocals doesn't really have to do with anything, especially because the instrumentation is still there, being crazy in the background.

Listen to Doom and Gloom for instance-- it goes exactly where it should go as a song, which makes me very happy. Even though DGD is wanky as hell as a band (and one could argue Craig only strengthened that quality,) they're focused on melody instead of coming up with the groovily grooves for Craig to croon over. I get that this isn't for everyone, but let's not take that as a fault for shoddy songwriting.

Didn't Mess say once that part of the reason they booted Kurt was because he wanted sing the next album in a higher register? If so that's just crazy cuz Tillian sounds like a munchkin on helium.

I thought they dropped Kurt just to get Craig back.

This was a few years back so I may not be remembering correctly but it was some AltPress interview with Mess. He was harping on Kurt's smoking habit and was like "and he wanted to sing even higher on the next album". Whatevs...I mean this is alright. I'm still absorbing it and there is some charm here but man, Tillian's voice is just absurdly high. I've never heard or seen him before but I picture him as a 5' 3" 120 lb dude in really tight pants.
