It's funny how I'm just discovering this band and yet I listen to anything and everything of this breed of metal. Toby Driver is crazy good. I could see this a 5 one day. Probably going to check out Choirs of the Eye next and work my way up.

Strange that you just discovered the MOTW connection to KD haha.. BLD is a good album but imo its not the best place in KD's discog to start.. especially if you love MOTW

Naughty Wizard! You will most likely like Choirs of the Eye (still prefer it over this but need to give it time to grow) and I recommend giving Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue a chance as well

Ratings are fitting and ephemeral. This album is so good as a place holder in the discography of Kayo Dot. When you listen to interviews or read them, with Driver he pretty much says that Choirs is a result of being invited to record with Tzadik, and realizing that he didn't realize just how far out or deep the avant music world had gone so he listened and made something happen. A totally youthful creative endeavor.
This is a composer getting a grasp on his materials and also wanting to write, generally speaking a metal album.
After ten years + this is a mature album that draws on all of the experimentation of the prior albums and amalgamates them into a piece.
For some this may not be a classic but I'm looking at this as a benchmark, and the doorway into the next ten years of music from this guy and whoever is part of his ensemble.
Good interview right here:

i was just worrying today that this might be toby's last foray this deep into metal.
where is the fucking tour? i've only seen them once on the BLD tour. luckily on that one they played marathon. i'm still in love with Mia since meeting her that night.
