R.E.M. were indie darling for like the entire 80s and massively popular rock stars for the first half of the 90s. Same with the Smiths, they were big across the mid-80s and Morrisey was a big deal as a solo artist for a good long while after they broke up. The Stone Roses definitely had their 15 minutes of fame right at the tail end of the 80s but it was a blip on the radar compared to those two bands.

Bone. This band/album were heralded as saviours in the UK. They were responsible for an entire youth movement. It’s all whittled away now but the fact remains ‘I Am The Resurrection’ is a drug.

The instrumental part is my greatest ever ‘moment’ in music. It’s impossible not to get into the groove and get a sense of euphoria when it kicks in.

That initial surge of something new, exciting and genuinely life changing has whittled away to nowt but yeah the band themselves are still well loved and ‘big’

Their fire was dimmed by Razorlight and the hydrogen bomb of cultural revolution that was Gay Dad.
