Ever since the "incident" with Taylor Swift at that award show around 2010/2011 the man has been under fire pretty hard and a bit of a laughing stock in the eye of the general public who don't listen to his music otherwise. And its been in full swing since his comments towards Beck, marrying Kim Kardashian, naming his child North (West), collabing with a Beatle, the Famous line, and all his pure insanity surrounding the release of his newest album.

The mans always been a vessel of controversy that has made most people kind of shift uncomfortably when he makes a comment like "george bush doesn't care about black people" but with social media on the rise its been way more prevalent and more hostile, which is why theres a far more rapid attack/defense crowd for Kanye than say... Taylor Swift? Drake? Some other mainstream artist?

The man is a respected and loved artist in a lot of music circles, but then in other circles and in the general populace who don't listen to rap at all, he is a punchline and a man who the media is telling the masses to laugh at for being so rude, and so silly, and so crazy.
