The whole album is great from start to finish, and "Massachusetts" is an awesome song, but I just can't get over how awful and corny the "please, oh baby please, I can't explain" sounds. Makes me cringe every time. I mean, I understand why it's there, and it makes sense I guess, but I think there's probably a much more creative and less cheesy way he could have said the same thing. Shane is so good at being unintentionally cheesy and adolescent sounding, but I've definitely seen a huge improvement this time.
Other than that small part of "Massachusetts," this album is incredible. I didn't think they would ever come close to "Discovering the Waterfront," but I think they've at LEAST matched it this time. Keeping my fingers crossed that we won't have another long wait for an album this good. And zero cheese next time. Please.

"please, oh baby please, I can't explain"
isn't it, "please, oh baby please, I can explain"?
not cheesy to me at all, I'd imagine that's how the cycle of abuse works

it works well in the song, if you took it out of context i guess it could seem cheesy

Yeah, I think you're right. Got the lyrics off the internet. I guess I should have listened instead. Like I said, it makes sense that it's there. Call me crazy, but I have this thing where I think it's corny to say "baby" in a song (or at all, really), unless the subject is actually an infant. Pet names like "baby" and "babe" are weird to me in general so I'm sure you can understand why it might strike a nerve. Silly, I know.

It's alright, I'm pretty sure I only know it because I've seen the lyric video like 15 times. And yeah that's a weird pet peeve but to each his own I suppose

They might have finally, FINALLY beaten Discovering the Waterfront with this.
The Zaireeka mix of "This is How" and "The Wind Shifts" should have been a hidden track or something. It's so damn good.
