I actually think it's good that he does all this stuff himself. He will have a lot more experience going to the next album and will know a lot more about producing and everything. You know, you have to do it to learn it.

It doesn't make sense spending 8 years learning to engineer and mix an album on your own, in any sense except if you literally can't afford to get someone else to do it.
Who's going to deliver the better mix - an engineer who's had a hand in the production of hundreds of albums or the guy who's teaching himself and working with entirely digital sounds?
Who's going to get the product done faster - said engineer or the guy who took 8 year to record and mix the first one.
Most importantly from Jari's POV - think about how much more money he could have made, and how much more successful this album and his band would have been if this album came out in say, 2007 instead of now.

but he had to make sure those synth lines were overlayered/overdone properly.

Picked this up today. After waiting for as long as we did I want to give this album a 3 or 3.5. For what it is, though, solid 4. Agreed with the entire review.

Yeah tbh I like this more than the S/T at this point which lost its lustre a long time ago

I still prefer their debut, but the second track on this record is one of the best metal songs of the year and better than anything off their debut imo
I have high expectations for the second part of this album, does anyone know when it is going to be released or has that not been announced yet?

"And you'll NEVER stop listening to this! Wintersun is not just another metal band. "Metal" is a poor word to describe so much epicness. Wintersun is not metal. It's the music of the Universe."
God...I don't even do this with Nightwish....ugh Youtube comments.

Haha that's a sick quote, Poet
Yeah this is definitely growing quite favorably, haven't decided on a rating because at first I thought it was OK but the more I listen the greater it gets
Still think the debut is superior :/

Their debut was way more fun and enjoyable.

"Time and Sons of Winter and Stars are to similar to invoke atmospheric diversity"........What the fuck. Those songs are completely different. Sons is way more intense. This reviewer is retarded, hire a new one.

Devin Townsend does pretty much everything himself these days and he's gotten to be really quick.

so ehhhhh.. 3.5 feels generous

That's because he's been producing and mixing his own albums basically his entire career.

Props to Crysis for using the word "epic" in its intended meaning. No props to the readers for failing to understand the original meaning of the word "epic"

The Oxford English dictionaries gives the adjective form of "epic" the following meanings:
1. relating to or characteristic of an epic or epics: our national epic poem Beowulf
2. heroic or grand in scale or character: his epic journey around the world a tragedy of epic proportions
informal: particularly impressive or remarkable: the gig last night was epic these CEOs are paid salaries and bonuses in the millions despite their epic failures
I agree that the informal use, which is really popular these days, is somewhat annoying, but that's how the language evolves... I think it's unacceptable in a proper review, but acceptable in the comments section, and as such I think it might not be fair to say that the readers failed to understand the meaning even if they use a different meaning themselves.

Well then Jari shouldn't have just plunged into it, but should have learned how to do it first, like
Townsend. :/ Teaching yourself anything is a noble venture, but not necessarily wise.
