Whenever I come back to this I immediately remember that Bert was, at least at times, the best singer the post-hardcore genre has ever had. His transitioning from cleans to screams is simply unmatched.

taste of ink is honestly the worst song here

I wouldn't call any track here bad tbh. Now is Taste of Ink overrated? Hell yeah it is BUT the lyrics were super meaningful to Bert and I love what they represented for this band coming into their own. The lyrics now are just upsetting considering how shitty things with the members have been since Quinn got kicked out and they aren't the same people they were back then. They used to all be so close to one another...

taste of ink is good song i just think the verses are like a little monotone? the best moments on this album (and from the band i general) are the tense moments of like, bulimic’s chorus, buried myself alive’s bridge, take it away’s bridge, all of maybe memories and blue and yellow, idk if tense is the right word but they elicit a strong emotional reaction and taste of ink is basically the only song here that doesn’t. it’s still like a 3.5-4 song, just on an album of 5s and 4.5s (more of the former)

Take it away is from in loved and death bud! haha
I understand your point though! I can definitely agree with you on that. I agree that taste of ink lacks the emotional intensity on blue and yellow for instance. That track specifically is really depressing to hear knowing Bert wrote that to Quinn as a token of their friendship.

Dude the verses on the taste of ink are the best part what
That song is just basically a feel good jam to me. It was also their attempt to be as accessable as possible I think. Something like Bert was tryin to come up with a good song to get them famous and get some money (was homeless at the time) and he was chewing on a pen while writing the lyrics or something and it broke in his mouth. So that’s what he called the song

I usually listen to em when i feel really tense which is probably why the more upbeat major key songs like toi dont really do it for me
