Well in LOTR it was like "Oooo, he is good with the bow and cool" "JUST KIDDING! HE IS JUST COMEDIC RELIEF WITH GIMLI NOW!". He's all quiet, angry and strong in this one. It's too bad the CGI used to make him look younger is extremely weird and they made his eyes crystal blue for some reason

Quiet and angry was literally his characterisation for the whole LOTR movies what are you on about
He barely even had any dialogue in the whole trilogy, which I'm thankful for because Bloom delivers dialogue as convincingly as tommy saying he's not drunk (for example)
And the relationship between Gimli and Legolas is one of my favourite parts of LOTR, don't go there man

I enjoyed Gimli and Legolas' banter and whatnot, but the characters were just straight up pussified. They are supposed to be these badass warriors and the movies just shoved them aside as comedic relief, especially Gimli. Watch how he goes from badass in Fellowship to just being comedic for the next two films.

They still fight absolutely like badasses, the only difference is that they overcome their prejudices towards race and become friends. Yes they're there for comedic relief, especially Gimli, but there's nothing wrong with that. Gollum even creates comedic relief at points. Don't tell me you hate Gollum too?

I feel like you can see no wrong in any of these films. All of the films in the first trilogy range somewhere in the 9/10 range for me, but that doesn't mean that they don't do shit that I don't like

You're completely right, I'm biased beyond belief when it comes to these films because they constituted my childhood. Having said that I don't think they're flawless: Frodo is an awful character

Yes I do think he's justified if he does it in a way I enjoy, if he's making money and I'm loving the films he's making then it's a win-win

Including some characters is cool, but I know Jackson tried to get Viggo to return and Viggo shut him down saying "You know Aragorn isn't in the Hobbit, right..?" What purpose would he have even served in the film?

He would've made the fans remember how awesome he was in LOTR and hopefully recapture some of that childhood magic. That's all the Hobbit trilogy is

Aragorn would have been about 10 years old during the story, though I guess they could have slipped him in there somewhere with the elves. That might have been kind of cool. I have no idea why they didn't include Arwen.
