Say what you will about her sequels to Soviet Kietsch, but I feel like she hasn't been able to capture the moment, if you will, that her talent as an artist deserves. She's done a lot in the pop genre since then, but I still see Soviet Kietsch as special. It's still pretty awesome. Not sure that this will match up that well

I think this is better than Soviet Kitsch, I'm sure I won't think that in a month or so though.

I find Spektor highly overrated, especially 'round these parts. Her quirkiness seems almost forced to me, and for every 3-4 fantastic songs on any given album, there are usually a handful of others that are comparatively dull, and then a few that are almost cringe-worthy. That's just me though, I can see why people like her. Perhaps one day I'll miraculously 'get' her music and open up to it, but for now, I find this pretty boring to listen to.

Fair: Ballad of a Politician

Good: Open, How, Small Town Moon

Great: All The Rowboats, Jessica, Oh Marcello, The Party

Excellent: Firewood, Patron Saint, Don't Leave Me

Album Highlights: "Oh baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby, it's all about the Moooooon!", "Here's your ticket; welcome to the tombs!", the old vinyl-sounding piano samples in Oh Marcello, mouth percussion galore!, and the horns in Don't Leave Me.

I think Regina has just worn off me a bit. I enjoy this album but her sound feels a little tired to me. All the Rowboats is one of her best songs ever though.
