"Any thoughts on the remaster?"
this sounds perfect already and I'm vaguely annoyed by the industry-standard practice of record labels unnecessarily remastering metal albums solely to re-press them for quick cash

agreed. also don’t know why they repressed this on a single lp instead of spreading it across two discs.

Hmm i don't agree that this sounds perfect. It still is comparatively muddy, when you hold it next to your average PT or Tool album

I love it that these remasters include the instrumentals, I never was a big fan of their vocals

The Czar for best Mastodon song. The band just isn't gonna be the same without Brent.

I vote Trilobite
But yeah this album rules. They haven't been the same since this album either. I dont think we were even really gonna see a return to the form of Remission/Leviathan

“Hmm i don't agree that this sounds perfect. It still is comparatively muddy, when you hold it next to your average PT or Tool album”
ahem but why would you put that style on a pedestal. Yeah they prog etc. but their roots are much grittier (of course this is much more “polished” than their earliest days, but I’m not sure this band would work with that style - not every prog band has to).

Bumped this up to a 5. Second best Mastodon, only bettered by Leviathan, which is a hard 5.
